Tips for applying sunscreen

  • As a general rule you should protect your entire body adequately. When applying sunscreen pay particular attention to the body’s so-called “sun traps” (nose, checks shoulders, neck, arches of your feet, bald head) as these are very exposed to the sun’s rays.
  • Remember to re-apply after swimming and towelling.
  • Every skin type is different and may need reapplication more frequently.
  • Put a timer on your phone so you don’t forget to re-apply.
  • Apply sunscreen 20 minutes prior to sun exposure across the whole body.

Shade is the best sunlight

Remember to avoid intense midday sun and prolonged exposure to the sun.

Did you know that up to 40% of UV rays still reach you in the shade?

Even though shade offers considerable protection from UV light, it does not shield you completely from it. A cloudy, grey sky reduces UV radiation by only a small percentage. So, if you are in the shade or it’s a cloudy day you should still use adequate sun protection.
