THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TINTED MOISTURISER AND FOUNDATION

Tinted Moisturiser vs Foundation

When you need to cover up imperfections, both tinted moisturiser and foundation can do the job. The major difference between them is the way they do it.

THE FOUR MAIN DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FOUNDATION AND TINTED MOISTURISER

When deciding which coverage product is right for you, consider which of these benefits are better suited your skin’s needs:

1. Ingredients:

  • Foundation uses significant amounts of an ingredient called titanium dioxide. This compound acts as a pigment on your skin and provides a thick level of coverage.
  • Tinted moisturiser usually contains low levels of titanium dioxide. Instead it’s filled with hydrating ingredients that work to enhance your natural skin tone.

2. Level of coverage:

  • Foundation provides an opaque layer on top of your skin which hides blemishes and helps to even out your complexion.
  • Tinted moisturiser achieves a similar effect as foundation but provides a lower level of coverage. Tinted moisturiser also improves your skin rather than just covering it.

3. Skin care benefits:

  • Foundation doesn’t usually contain skin-nourishing ingredients. Their sole purpose is to provide coverage and to smooth out your complexion
  • Layer your foundation over a nourishing moisturiser for long-lasting hydration.
  • Tinted moisturiser helps to moisturise and brighten your skin while adding a little bit of colour.

4. Range of choice:

  • Liquid foundation offers a large range of shades, finishes (natural, matte, and dewy), and coverage (sheer, medium, and full).
  • Tinted moisturiser is usually only available in one to four shades: light, medium, dark or natural.

While NIVEA currently does not stock a tinted moisturiser, we recommend using our UV Face BB Cream as it has a similar effect with the addition of SPF50+ offering UVA/UVB protection. BB Cream has slightly more coverage than a tinted moisturiser yet still less than a foundation.
