1. WHY DO DEODORANTS CONTAIN ALUMINIUM?
Aluminium is an active ingredient in anti-perspirants because of its ability to reduce the production of sweat.
2. HOW DO ALUMINIUM SALTS WORK?
Aluminium salts form temporary gel plugs at the most upper part of your sweat pores. Thus, less sweat is released.
Through friction and the natural skin renewing process these plugs are removed over time.
Aluminium salts also help to reduce the number of bacteria that cause the smell associated with sweat.
3. IS THE USE OF ALUMINIUM IN DEODORANT REGULATED?
Like all other ingredients used in cosmetics, aluminium salts are strictly regulated and subject to stringent safety controls and scientific testing.
So, you can feel confident in the knowledge they are safe for your body. Explore the NIVEA range of anti-perspirants or deodorants to find the best one for you.
4. IS USING AN ALUMINIUM FREE DEODORANT IMPORTANT?
You may have heard a story about aluminium in deodorants causing diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s disease in the media.
The Journal of The National Cancer Institute published a study in 2002 exploring the relationship between breast cancers and antiperspirants or deodorants in 1606 women. The findings did not show an increased risk of cancer amongst deodorant or antiperspirant users.
The Alzheimer’s Society also stated that the link between environmental aluminium and Alzheimer’s disease seems increasingly unlikely.
Unless new scientific proof finds a conclusive link between aluminium in personal hygiene products and a disease, there is no reason why you would have to switch your favourite anti-perspirant for an aluminium free deodorant.
