1. PACK LIGHT
If you’re pressed for space, store liquid cosmetics and moisturisers in a contact case so you don’t have to carry the entire container. Or choose products that do multiple jobs such as the NIVEA 3 in 1 Micellar Water, remove make up, cleanse and moisturise in one simple step.
2. MAXIMISE SPACE
Instead of folding, try rolling your clothes instead. You’ll be surprised by how much you can fit this way!
3. KEEP IT CLEAN
Separate the dirty soles of your shoes from clean clothes by placing them in shower caps.
4. KEEP IT FRESH
Use a dryer sheet in your luggage to keep your clothes smelling fresh for longer.
5. PROTECT BREAKABLES
Slip fragile items such as glass fragrance bottles and jewellery into socks before packing them. For small loose items such as rings and earrings, use pill case compartments or an old lip balm container to keep track of them.
6. PREVENT ‘OH-NO’ SITUATIONS
To prevent liquid products from spilling onto other items in your bag, use a square of cling wrap and wrap it around the opening of a bottle, before screwing the top on.
7. EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED
We all hope it doesn’t happen, but sometimes luggage does go missing when you arrive at your destination. Carry around the essentials, such as toothbrush and toothpaste, hand/eye cream, face wipes, deodorant and some spare clothes in your hand baggage. Don’t forget that you can only travel with 100mL bottles!
8. BRING JUICE
Phones, cameras, tablets and other mobile devices all need juice. Pack spare batteries and portable power chargers for when you’re on the go, and consider bringing a power board if you have multiple devices to charge. This way, you’ll only need one socket adaptor for all your electronics.
Forgot your charger but have USB cord? Most televisions in hotel rooms now have USB ports that you can use to charge your devices.
9. TOOTHBRUSH CASES ARE NOT JUST FOR TOOTHBRUSHES
They’re also great to store makeup brushes, necklaces, pens and pencils.
10. DON'T FORGET SUNSCREEN
Don’t forget to practice sun safety, especially if you’re off to a sunny location. Pack a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun’s damaging rays.
11. HEADPHONE SPLITTER
Some kids will have their own device to bring on a plane, but sometimes they still love watching a movie together. A headphone splitter will come in handy, especially if one kid’s device runs out of battery!
12. GO ‘OLD SCHOOL’
There are many apps out there to help make travelling easier, but what happens when your device runs out of juice? Save yourself the heartache and print off important documents, itineraries and maps. It’ll also help save you any surprise charges on your phone bill the next month!
